Comedians from all over the country will be breaking stereotypes in the world’s only major improv festival celebrating the uniquw comdeic perspective of improvisers age 50 or more. The Vintage Improv Festival, produced by ImprovBoston, will take place at the renowned Somerville Center for Arts at the Armory on September 14 and 15 , 2019. Festival performers will entertain audiences in a series of fully improvised shows beginning at 4:45 pm and lasting through the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Audiences of all ages will provide the suggestions, laughter and applause. Early shows wiil be age-appropriate for the younger set but the later the shows get, the intended audience is adult and some content may only be appropriate for adult audiences. Reservations for Sunday are required due to space limitations. Also be aware there is a street festival in front of the Armory on Sunday which means free parking is about 1-2 blocks from the event. Check www.vintageimprov.com for up to date parking locations.

VIF offers reasonably priced Festival Day Passes for a small donation. VIF is will also provide significant group discounts on Festival pass recommended donation. In fact groups of 5 or more seniors may contact vintageimprovfestival@gmail.com for free passes good for any shows the entire weekend. Groups with 10 or more children or youths may also contact the same email to obtain free passes for the first shows each evening. All proceeds of ticket donations goes to support the public service mission of Vintage Improv Festival Inc.

VIF is not just some local event. It draws improvisers from around the US and the world. Over the course of the festivities which include private events as well, these experienced improvisers will take intensive workshops with industry leading instructors, explore Boston and socialize with other Vintage performers.   Events throughout the festival provide meaningful opportunities for playfulness, connection, physicality, support, trust, self confidence and of course copious laughter. Submissions to participate came from both existing improv teams and experienced solo improvisers. Artists traveling solo to VIF will perform with curated teams of other adventurous, “single” comedians and are led by world class improv directors.

The inspiration for the Vintage Improv phenomenon  came from Miki Manting, a Boston-based improviser who performs with the team Elderberry Jam, the original Vintage improv Troupe. Last year, Mike Descoteaux, ImprovBoston’s former Artistic Director summed up the community's excitement about the festival, saying, “Vintage Improv Festival gives us the chance to shine a spotlight on incredible improvisers who have a powerful combination of life experience, stage experience, and passion for delivering the laughs." ImprovBoston was thrilled to be the first comedy theater to produce a festival like this and Vintage Improv Festival Inc is  looking forward to carrying on the joyful new tradition because comedy gets better with age!!!

Vintage Improv Festival is a501{c)(3) nonprofit registered in the state of Massachusetts with a mission to support the public through comedy with an emphasis on the diversity provided by senior citizens.
